The Dunamis Army kicked off their summer party season with a “Big Day” event, on June 18, at Bridlewood Community Church. The two-hour event featured music, games, prizes, a buffet dinner, and two surprise announcements to build energy around the group’s summer evangelistic plans.
“Every year, Dunamis implements a summer campaign called ‘summer parties,’ which are weekly evangelistic events,” states Naomi Gimba, one of Dunamis’ leaders. “[The events are] tailored towards attracting large crowds of young people to hear a Gospel message among games, food, and music. The Big Day marks the start of this campaign and is designed to build momentum and engagement from the young people.”
Dunamis Army is an evangelistic and discipleship group for youth and young adults, lead by a team of young leaders from across Ottawa. Many of their team members are musicians and their events often feature live worship. The group’s new band, Dunamis District, used the event to announce the release of their second debut single, called “Revival Song”. Their first single, Fix My Eyes, came out May 31.
The group also used the Dunamis Big Day to launch their Dunamis Army app.
“I was looking forward to seeing the gathering of everyone and just having fun and celebrating God.”
“The vast majority of people who attend Dunamis are between the ages of 16 and 25, and they heavily engage in apps,” Gimba explains. “We created the Dunamis App as a place to compile all of our media: recorded preaches, music videos, and live recordings. It’s also a place to keep up to date with upcoming events and announcements. The app combines important utilities such as the Bible, a notes section, and Christian content, with the ability to be an active part of a vibrant local community.”
Wei Wei Chan is a volunteer with Dunamis Army. She was excited about the announcements, but says what stood out most about the Dunamis Big Day event was God’s faithfulness. From shifting the weather in time for the event, to bringing personal breakthrough in the lives of people who came, she says she left amazed by God.
“I, personally, was looking forward to seeing the gathering of everyone and just having fun and celebrating God. We were believing God was going to do something big and God exceeded our expectations,” she says.
“I witnessed several people conquering their own battles, coming to this event. I was amazed and blown away at how God gave them the strength and good courage to conquer their battles, and I was so happy to rejoice with them in their victories.”
Chan says she was so uplifted to “have fun, encourage [others] and grow together, and celebrate God.”
